Perched at 11,700ft, the OPUS Hut is an eco-friendly, off-the-grid, bed-and-breakfast style backcountry lodge. In winter, OPUS is accessed via a 3.5 mile ski and in summer, it’s a ¼ mile hike. Our mission is to foster a non-motorized mountain recreation culture and reconnect guests to the natural world. Guests visit to ski tour, hike and enjoy breathtaking vistas. We provide lodging, meals, and information about the surrounding area in a comfortable, low-impact setting.

Description

We’re seeking an operations manager/ lodgekeeper/ server with mountain skills who is interested in making a long-term commitment to the business. This position includes managerial work alongside serving guests and involves physical labor—all our supplies are carried by foot to the OPUS over the ¼ mile trail and there is significant hands-on maintenance work. Compensation starting at $40,000 per year plus gratuity and is dependent on experience and performance. While some work is required during the off-seasons, most work will occur during the winter season (late December through early May) and summer season (July through September).

 

 

Skills

Operations Manager/Server responsibilities include:

Guest communications (email, phone and in-person)
Food and beverage purchasing, stocking, and inventory
Staffing and scheduling
Preparing meals for groups of up to 20 guests
Bartending for groups of up to 20 guests
Cleaning (laundry and housekeeping)
Hut maintenance (managing water system, solar system, composting toilets, propane system, snow removal, and woodstoves)

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• College education
• Management experience
• Customer service experience/ability to interact with and assist guests
• Cooking and bartending skills
• Cleaning and maintenance experience
• Mechanical systems knowledge and experience
• Avalanche and snow safety training and knowledge
• Mountain travel and navigation skills
• Backcountry skiing skills and experience
• First Aid training
• Good communication skills
• Ability and willingness to engage in physical labor including, but not limited to hauling supplies, shoveling snow, and chopping firewood
• Appreciation and interest in natural history
• Positive attitude and problem-solving skills

Educational Requirements

Avalanche level 2 training
