Backcountry Trip Leaders

TVRC Trip Leaders (TLs) set the tone and spirit for high quality backpacking, horse packing, and day hiking excursions into the remote backcountry of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and beyond. They are educators, uniquely positioned to share their knowledge and passion for the outdoors with campers and staff alike. They are risk managers, responsible for hazard evaluation and decision-making in potentially high-stress situations. They are role models, keenly aware of group dynamics and continuously exemplifying the values of our community.

In addition to their role as backcountry educator, TLs are also active members of the larger camp community. They participate in various activities and traditions of camp, and support the experience and growth of the campers in all possible ways both on and off the ranch property.

Position Qualifications (Essential)
21 years or older (at start)
Wilderness First Aid certification – offered during training (Wilderness First Responder preferred)
CPR certification
Passion for working with children in an outdoor setting
Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds

Recommended Experience (Nonessential)
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification or higher (WFR can be recertified during training)

Experience leading backcountry trips, personally or professionally (experience leading groups of children professionally is preferred)
Background in experiential, outdoor, and/or general education
Experience working in a residential camp setting

Dates of Employment
Trip Leaders arrive: May 27, 2018
Trip Leaders depart: August 16, 2018

$2,900, plus room and board, for the full summer.
