Attracting candidates for a career job in Steamboat Springs, Jackson Hole, Truckee is not going to (even slightly) compare to searching for employees to fill positions located in a big city. Apples and Oranges. Work to live … live to work. Priorities are totally different. Finding the right fit for your ski town based company takes the right mix of targeted marketing and advertising, creativity, and patience (don’t just fill the seat).
Nearing the end of my journey through Vermont, it all started coming back to me, so many incredible memories from my ten summers in the Green Mountains of Vermont. I stayed in Manchester, Vermont for the last night of my trip, a small town many people know for all of its designer store outlets. How did I end up in an outlet town for my final night in Vermont?
At least to me it is. This was by far my favorite stop on the trip. My whole body and mind melted into relaxation as soon as I hit the Mad River Valley and caught the first glimpse of that Mad River.
Stowe was the next stop up on my journey. It is one of the more (if not the most) popular ski towns in the east. Not only for its ski resort (Mt. Mansfield is the highest peak in Vermont), but for the actual town of Stowe itself which is and has always been a major draw. It definitely is the quintessential New England ski town and I can see why it attracts people from all over the world.
I wasn’t completely sure of the plan … but honestly, when I travel, I never really am. Starting from the southern end of Vermont, Stowe and the Mad River Valley were definite destinations, but as for the before and after part of the journey … your guess would of been as good as mine.
Outside Magazine’s May issue just hit the stands with the cover feature, “The 50 best Jobs”. The article highlights career profiles, best companies to work for and those lucky, skilled (and adventurous) enough to have these jobs. No surprise here … many are based in ski towns.
Ski resorts have begun to close this month for the season but not before some major partying takes place thanking the snow gods for this year’s record breaking snowfall.
Thanks to Mother Nature, this year’s ski season has been a time to remember for many. Hard to even believe that it was only four months ago that there was so much whining and sniveling due to the lack of early season snow. So … If you don’t want to miss out on another great season, there is no time like the present to start job searching, house hunting and formulating a plan to give mountain living a go.
